Blind people have been using walking sticks for years. It helps people that can’t see “feel” for things that are at a distance, such as walls and holes. Well, the Tactile Wand Electronic Walking Stick takes things to a modern level. It is a device that uses a distance sensor to detect objects in front of the user. As the user comes closer to the object, the greater the vibration in the device. I guess you could call it a type of “sonar”. The device is battery operated and a charging cradle is included. Right now, the device is only a concept. Hopefully, it will come into existence, because I can understand how this could really help people with impaired vision, even though it needs to be perfected. Like being able to “detect” things like open elevator shafts, or cliffs.
