ASUS EEE T91: Finally a tablet netbook!
Remember the UMPC hype some years ago? Well, unfortunately it was really just a hype and the few actually existing models did not sell very well.
Asus on the other hand managed to introduce a whole new generations of laptops all by itself. The series is now about to do it again: EeePC T91 and T101H are the first netbooks to feature touchscreens. There is no information about price and availablity so far, but the upcoming CeBit in Germany will bring some light into the darkness for sure.
The T91 has a 9″ display (the T101H 10″), an Atom-CPU and WLAN 802.11b/g/n. Other than the first EEE models, Asus is running its new babies with Windows XP Home including additional “Touch Software”.
Well, I wonder if there is some decent handwriting recognition software included – if yes, one of these netbooks is mine.

Well, it is beginning to sound more and more to me that Microsoft is thinking twice about their recent Vista fiasco. There has been news that the next operating system for Windows called Windows 7 would be released sometime next year. Now the word is that Windows 7 won’t get here until 2010, a full three years since the introduction of Vista. “As is standard with the release of a new product, we will be releasing early builds of Windows 7 prior to its general availability as a means to gain tester feedback,”

Logitech has came up with a small minature keyboard, just in case you are tired of lugging around a full size keyboard for your home theater PC. It is so small, it doesn’t take up much space, but offers all of the features that a full keyboard offers. It can control any PC from up to thirty feet away, and is touchpad sensitive. Who would have ever thought….a pc built into a keyboard. Rather ugly, I think is the ZPC-GX31 from a company called Cybernet. The keyboard does not only function as a keyboard, but inside it is packet all the guts of a computer, which consists of an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, 4MB of DDR2/667Mhz RAM, 1GB LAN and DVI interface, 4 USB ports, Audio Inputs/Outputs, Ethernet Jack, PS/2 inputs, optical drive CDRW-DVD or DVD+/-RW, Intel Graphics Card, a Serial ATA HD, and several fans to keep the unit cool. And not only that…there are several options available from the company to customize with other options. Prices start at $699. So…why not buy a laptop?

The Company HTC has a laptop called the HTC Shift X9000 that is available for pre-order. It is a Linux based UMPC. The price is a suggested $1499, which makes it a lot different there than a lot of low cost Linux based UMPCs. No shipping date has been made available yet. The laptop comes with a Sprint EV-DO connection. Laptop magazine says it has the “best surfing experience of any UMPC. So why is it so expensive?

The Western Digital Caviar SE16 3.5 Hard Drive is huge. It has 640 GB worth of storage. It achieves this by using two 320 GB per-platter technology. This is nothing new for Western Digital; they have been using this type of technology since January. Here are some of the specs:
* Top performance for Windows Vista – WD Caviar SE16 SATA and EIDE drives are certified for Windows Vista and are top performers on the Windows Vista Experience Index.
* 16 MB Cache – Bigger cache means faster performance. A massive 16 MB cache combined with advanced acoustic and power-reducing technologies make these ultra-fast drives the perfect solution for the fully loaded PC.
* Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) – The latest generation of WD Caviar SE16 drives employs PMR technology to achieve even greater areal density.
* IntelliSeek – Calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption, noise and vibration.
* SecurePark – Parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface resulting in improved long term reliability due to less head wear, and improved non-operational shock tolerance.
* StableTrac – The motor shaft is secured at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking, during read and write operations (750 GB only).

Thorn Micro Technologies have introduced a solid-state laptop component in the form of a micro chip sized fan, which has no moving parts, but is capable of keeping your laptop a lot cooler. Yep we know how warm laptops get after just a few minutes of use. The fan uses the same technology that is used in household air purifiers. This results in a “flow” rate three times greater than a typical small mechanical fan, and much lower power consumption. And the fan is suppose to be completely silent in operation. Right now, the Micro chip Sized Fan is only in the testing stages, but it looks promising, not only for laptops, but for the cooling of many electronic devices.

ASUS Eee computers have been priced as low as $299. Other manufacturers are getting on the bandwagon daily, so ASUS is doing some innovative things to its 7-inch screen models. You are probably aware that the first models of the Eee computers ran Linux, and all claimed to be Windows Compatable. Well now the company says they will introduce a version with Windows XP. Microsoft works are also included, and access to Windows Live. However RAM is only 512 MB, and the keys are still very tiny. Price is not yet available, but word is that it will be less than $100.
