Here is a cool little gadget for all of you that use to fry ants on the sidewalk with your magnifying glass. The Torch from Wicked Lasers claims to be the world’s brightest and most powerful flashlight. It is being considered in the Guinness Book of World Records. At 4100 lumens the Torch is 100 lumens more powerful than The Polarion Helios, the former most powerful flashlight. It is capable of melting plastic, lighting paper on fire within seconds, and if you like, fry an egg or a marshmallow on a stick. Measurements of the torch are 57mm x 230mm. The 4100 lumens can be adjusted via a high efficiency reflector. The casing is made from aerospace grade aluminum. The battery only lasts for 15 minutes. I would suggest rechargables.

“Why put a tuner onboard your guitar? Because stompbox tuners compromise your tone, hand held tuners are easy to lose or break, and clip-on tuners, well… they just plain suck.” This gadget, called the N-Tune Onboard True Bypass Chromatic Tuner is a device that attaches to your guitar’s volume knob. Simply pull your guitar’s volume knob and use the super-bright display and tune your guitar in seconds. Then when you want to play, simply push the knob back down. The website claims that “the device removes all tuning circuity from your guitar’s signal path” I don’t play the guitar, but it seems to me it would be a very convenient way to tune your guitar, if it works as is claimed. On the website, there are testimonials from bands such as EverClear. The gadget is now available in a wide range of new guitars, and is also available as after market. In order to install it, all you need is your existing volume knob, and some standard soldering tools. Best of all, no permanent modification of your guitar is required! It comes in both the Fender style package, and the Gibson style package.

buffalo-keyboard-with-skype-phone

If you have tons of gadgets on your desk like I do, you tend to like one product to do several different tasks. Here is a Skype phone that looks just like a real phone, built into your keyboard. Not everyone likes using a headset when using their Skype, and would prefer to talk on a normal phone, which is where this device comes in. However when they designed this product, to keep the keyboard a decent size, they had to make the phone very small. This will probably be unacceptable to some people. But it is a good idea, I think. I don’t like the idea of holding a toothpick up to my ear for a long phone call. Look for Buffalo to launch this gadget in Japan this October for around $65.00

groqit in hand

If you have a large collection of anything, you need a way to keep track of exactly what you have. For example, I have a huge cd/dvd collection. And sometimes, when I see a DVD or CD that I am interested in, I am not 100% sure whether I already own it or not. Here is a handy gadget that keeps track of your inventory in a portable way that you can take anywhere with you. The Groqit Personal Inventory System. You use your Groqit to read barcodes, store new items, and look up what you have. The only catch I see is that you have a membership to access the site that saves your database. By signing up for membership services, you can use this website to: create and organize lists on your Groqit to make it more useful. You can download translated data, so your lists are searchable by Title, Author, Composer or other category and avoid getting different versions of things you own, even if the barcodes don’t match.

freeplayThe Freeplay Companion is a radio, a flashlight, and a cell phone charger, all in a unit that’s only 125 mm long (4.9″) and 200 g (7 oz). It has a solar panel and a crank so you’ll never run out of power, and you’ll never have to buy disposable batteries. The built in radio with the self contained power available lets you never have to worry about being able to have the juice to connect. This size is small enough to fit easily in your purse, your bag, your glove box, or your drawer. The flashlight has 3 LEDs with its optics optimized for a focused light. And it has an integrated cell phone charger! Sweet!
