Everyone with the latest generation of video game consoles knows that they go beyond being just gaming hardware. They can also play back videos, MP3’s, and even digital photos, without using a PC. Well, you need storage for that. The Media Xporter USB Hard Drive is suppose to be made for video consoles. But to me, it looks like just a 160 GB hard drive with a green paint job. Also included is the Prism Video Converter MX software, which converts to various formats for various consoles. Cost is about $100. But it doesn’t work on the Wii.

Here is a 7 inch display that will attach to the back of your Wii, so that you can do all of your gaming close up. The website says this would be great for the car. “As you can see in the photo the LCD attaches to the back of the Wii console with a rather large connector that makes the whole unit about an inch longer. It includes cloned versions of all the ports on the back of the Wii that end up getting blocked, and even adds an extra set for connecting an additional AV device to the screen. I like that the screen is attached via a ball and socket joint so that it can be pivoted and rotated around as needed, however, I’m not sure if the screen has an integrated Wii sensor bar. If it doesn’t, where are you supposed to mount one?” Cost is about $100.

This gadget will premiere at the Milan Design Week in Milan, Italy next week. It’s called “11″ and it is a design reflecting the love of Football. Or if you are in America, Soccer. “It was created by GRO design and TIM model makers and is a totally unique modern approach to the standard fooze ball table. From the outside to the inside, the concept and design is outstanding and brought about in great detail. “We were interested in creating atmosphere through form, colour, material and subtle use of light, bringing a heightened sense of drama and excitement to the game. The table’s flowing lines express the dynamic aspect of football, while reducing unnecessary detail to allow the raw energy of the game to come to the fore.” Even the player figures are special. They are made of solid brass and covered in a bright silver chrome mirror finish” Price is not available. If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.

Scrabble has been around for a long long time. Probably before I was born (I rest my case.). And a lot of people are still obsessed with the popular game. If you are one of those that love the game, Franklin now has the SCR-226 Official Scrabble Players Dictionary. It can resolve many a dispute, because its database has over 1000,000 different words in it. “It can also help a Scrabble player when making his or her next move. All a player has to do is enter in the seven letters that he or she has on the scrabble tile keypad, and the Players Dictionary will come up with several words for his or her turn. It will sort these words out by point value, and it can even find words from the letter pattern on the board.” Don’t know if I like that idea or not. It seems like cheating to me, and taking all of the skill out of it.

Nintendo has a game called Flash Focus that helps you if your are a baseball player, to improve your hitting. At least that’s what White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski says. Yep, through daily use of the software, he claims to have improved his hitting. Perhaps the rest of the White Sox should take his lead.

Sony is trying some new things with its PSP gaming machine, trying to keep up with Nintendo. There is a new slimmer PSP that is to be released in September of this year, with a price of about $200. The PSP is 30% lighter, and 20% thinner than the previous model, which makes it a little easier to handle, without compromising usability or screen size. Several hardware changes are included, including the inclusion of a video out port. Other changes include doubling the RAM from 32 MB to 64 MB and also being able to charge the unit via USB. Several colors are available including black, white, and silver.

I have heard talk that most of the older arcade games are very difficult to play with the 360’s modern controller. Well, this gadget is suppose to help with that. It was built by a guy named Shaolin Drunkard, who is a master joystick builder. This guy knows what he is doing. It is hand built, and uses arcade quality controls from Sanwa and Seimitsu. It also has LED back lighting behind each button. And the joysticks knob glows green. The joystick is encased in an oak box. Right now, it is not mass produced, but hopefully one day soon it will be.

The Rumbleseat is not one, but two chairs that shake, rattle, and roll to totally get you into that video game that you are playing. And what is cool about it is that you can have your partner sitting right there beside you, shaking in unison. Another difference in this chair compared to others is the fact that it is wireless. What that means is that you don’t have to worry about any cords dangling around to trip on when you go and get that snack. And it is suppose to hook up to any A/V device. The Rumbleseat comes in Black/Red, Blue Microsuede, and Gray Microsuede. It sells for around $250. This could add to your gaming experience two-fold.
