Electronics keep getting thinner and thinner, especially cell phones. Samsung claims to have the slimmest CMOS camera module of its kind, just 8.5 mm thick. What that means is that camera phones will be able to be much thinner than even now, since the camera’s “guts” are thinner. It comes in a 8 and 5 MegaPixel model, and should be available sometimes later this year. And it has a lot of other features such as anti shake, a 1-cm macro, and face tracking technology.

The new Canon IXUS 970 IS is now available for purchase. It is a 10 megapixel digital camera with a huge 5x optical zoom. The camera also has an enhanced version of Canon’s lens-shift type optical Image Stabilizer (IS). The website also states it has high ISO Auto with Motion Detection Technology, Face Detection Technology with White Balance and Face Select and Track, Automatic Red-Eye correction, Noise Reduction Technology, a 2.5 inch PureColor LCD plus optical viewfinder, and several other features. This seems like a real heavyweight camera for the serious photo buff.

There are dozens of small digital spy cameras out there these days. The only thing left, I guess, is to find original places to hide these devices. Ajoka has made one that integrates into a pretty normal looking belt buckle. It captures 176X144 pixel 3GP Videos, and has a MicroSD card. A 2GB Card would equal to about 65 hours of video, but current battery technologies limit the actual recording time to about 3 hours on a single charge. Th bottom of the buckle has the MicroSD card slot, a record button, a power switch setting, and a USB port for downloading the video files to your pc. My question is the placement of the camera. Will it only take pictures of people’s stomachs, or is the lens in a position to tilt upward?

Elmo Japan is the same company that produced the SUV-CAM II. The company has announced the arrival of the SUV-Cam Professional. It’s the same camera, except it has the ability to record video in 704 X 480 and also will accept cable length from 3m to 5m instead of 1.5 maximum on the SUV-Cam II. You can also schedule recording and start without you being there.

The TwistCamera is a group concept by Bryn Seymour and Jon Rothapfel, Product Design students, Newcastle TAFE, Australia. What it is is a small digital camera that uses a winding mechanism for power, and would be capable of taking several photos per cycle of the mechanism. The Camera has very simple features, with the view finder being just a simple hole in the body to look through. A USB plug is hidden under the winding cap. “It is intended that such a device could support resolution of up to 5MP with current technologies and find use in a range of diverse areas such as recreation, children’s products and third world use.”

Now you can be just like the pro’s with the Helmet Action Cam. Its a digital cam that sits right on top of that bike helmet, football helmet, or for that matter, I guess you could stick it on your head. It features hands free digital recording, and is waterproof (important), and shockproof. It has 640 x 480 VGA resolution (boo), and can take an SD card up to 2GB, along with its 32MB onboard memory. And it uses 2 AA batteries. As the picture says. Life is hard. Wear a helmet.
