Seven Inch LCD Monitor

30. April, 2008

Image

Here is a 7 inch display that will attach to the back of your Wii, so that you can do all of your gaming close up. The website says this would be great for the car. “As you can see in the photo the LCD attaches to the back of the Wii console with a rather large connector that makes the whole unit about an inch longer. It includes cloned versions of all the ports on the back of the Wii that end up getting blocked, and even adds an extra set for connecting an additional AV device to the screen. I like that the screen is attached via a ball and socket joint so that it can be pivoted and rotated around as needed, however, I’m not sure if the screen has an integrated Wii sensor bar. If it doesn’t, where are you supposed to mount one?” Cost is about $100.

ScanCafe Preserves Your Memories

30. April, 2008

Image

ScanCafe specializes in preserving your memories and precious moments. For most of us we don’t have the time or luxury to scan in all our old photos so that we can make them digital, however ScanCafe will save you the time as long you have the money. Send them a bunch of your most prized photos via UPS and they’ll scan and digitize them. Then you can select what you want saved to CD or printed our professionally. Pricing is 19c for negatives at 3000 dpi, 24c for slides at 3000 dpi and 27c for photos at 600 dpi. This is actually pretty reasonable pricing, and when you consider that your photos are probably fading away as each moment passes, this is a good bandwagon to jump on. Just pray that UPS takes care of your package getting there.

Car-exhaust oven, 1930

30. April, 2008

Image

Here is an actual device that was sold back in the 1930’s. It was pretty cool at that time. Here is what the actual ad stated in Popular Mechanics. “MEALS can literally be cooked on the run through the use of the automatic cooker shown in the photo above. The cooker is mounted on the rear bumper of the motor tourist’s car and an extension from the exhaust pipe connected up with it, as shown in the insert. The cooker contains a steam pressure kettle which is heated by the hot exhaust gases. An hour’s drive is quite sufficient to thoroughly cook meats and vegetables. Total weight of the unit is so slight that running qualities of the car remain quite unaffected. Motor tours are much more pleasant when one is assured of a well-prepared meal at the end of the trip.”

SkullCandy’s Link Hydro Pack

30. April, 2008

ImageSkullCandy is a connoisseur when it comes to making headphones and bags that are hip but very techie. Their latest LINK Hydro Pack is a neat backpack that uses their LINK technology that lets users listen to music while making phone calls through headphones or speakers located right on the straps of the backpack. The pack also promises to be a great outdoor accessory that is designed for 3 seasons and it has convenient access to H20 via its straps, because we are all way too lazy for our own good. The Link Hydro Pack retails for $149.95 and is available in grey/orange or camp. For those of you who are more of a pink bag type, check out the somewhat similar Link Fashion Pack - however it’s not as rugged and doesn’t let you sip and go.

500 GB Portable HDD

19. April, 2008

OWCMOTGPRO2.jpgThe Mercury-On-The-Go from OWC is a somewhat tempting three-way connectible 500GB portable HDD. Component-wise there are no surprises, under the hood is a 2.5? 5400 RPM Hitachi Travelstar 5K500 with an 8MB cache. With Firewire 400/800 and USB 2.0 you get three-way connectivity and bus power.

I don’t think that there is quite enough cool looking circuitry in a portable HDD to warrant a clear case, but the design works. At 3.5? (W) x 5.5? (D) x 1? (H) and at 2.5 lbs it is as light as can be expected. The kicker for the Mercury is the price; it is $359.99, which means that you are going to want to go on the road with your equipment a lot in order to justify the expense. If you work from home a 3.5? will give you a lot more bang for your buck.
