Remote On Your Shirt

19. April, 2008
I like this concept of a stylish remote control that
clasps over the button on a piece of clothing. The idea doesn’t
account for the rise of this little invention called the zipper. But it
appeals to me for the subtlety of integration with clothing, and well,
because I like to fiddle with buttons. Always have.

IBM Racetrack Memory

16. April, 2008

Image

Now there is a next-generation nonvolatile memory known as “racetrack” made by IBM. They expect it to replace flash memory in the near future, and after that, hard drives. The technology used in Racetrack is spintronics “where the storage of bits generated by the magnetic spin of electrons rather than their charge was recently demonstrated by IBM. Storage and retrieval of information is achieved by “massless motion”".

Urwerk 202 Watch Driven By Compressed Air

16. April, 2008

ImageImage

This is a cool watch called the UR 202 and is driven by compressed air. The inner space of the watch is airproof, and there are built in turbines that spin as long as temperature changes to drive the watch. In order to compensate for sharp movements and increase the watches lifespan, there is a 3-position selector switch on the back of the watch for turbine speed adjustments.

“In addition, the reading manner is fairly innovative. The three dials accompanied by their own rotating blocks is used to indicate hours and, at the same time, they adjust their length to mark the minutes.”

Electronic Etiquette Checker

16. April, 2008

Image

Wouldn’t you love to have proper manner, or etiquette as it is otherwise known? Well, this device checks your etiquette in a different way. It tells you if you have bad breath. All you do is blow into the sensor, and you will get a “breath quality reading” on a scale of 1 to 6. I am not sure who tested this to make sure it was on scale, but that’s another story.

“The device is also able to measure your blood alcohol level, and will provide a reading in 0.5 increments so you know if you’ve enjoyed yourself too much to get behind the wheel of a car. You can find it at Japan Trend Shop for $59.”

Tengu- the lip syncher

16. April, 2008

Image

I like silly USB gadgets, if you don’t already know. But most of them get old pretty fast. But this one, called Tengu is pretty cool, and will keep your interest for a while.

“Tengu is a little USB-powered device that responds to voice and music, and while this is the standard modus operandi of most useless USB gadgets, Tengu can actually lip-synch to music or your voice.”
